सिखों के प्रथम गुरु श्री गुरू नानक देव सहृदयता, उदारता और उपकार की प्रतिमूर्ति थे। वे दार्शनिक, योगी, गृहस्थ, धर्मसुधारक, समाजसुधारक, कवि, देशभक्त और विश्वबंधु - सभी के गुण समेटे हुए थे। वे भगवदभक्ति के बहुत बड़े प्रचारक थे। वे असहाय और गरीब लोगों के बल थे। उन्होंने इस संसार को सत्य, शांति और प्रेम का संदेश दिया।
